Future Teachers Go to the Head of the Class
Fostering exceptional new teachers is the goal of the new Education Celebration
Scholarship, made possible by the Oregon 529 College Savings Network. The scholarship
will fund senior undergraduates and community college transfer students who are pursuing
K-12 teaching degrees. First available in 2013, the scholarship is open to all Oregon
students, including current educators pursuing master's degrees.
For Michael Parker, the Network's Executive Director, investing in quality teachers is
paramount to the continued success of Oregon's educational reforms. "The Education
Celebration is our campaign to promote and highlight the importance of education in
Oregon," he said. "We hope that this new scholarship will increase quality educational
opportunity, both to strengthen and sustain the teaching profession and to work toward
our continued goal of Oregon students attaining a postsecondary education."
The new Education Celebration Scholarship is among the 450+ scholarships included in
the OSAC scholarship application, at app.OregonStudentAid.gov.
ASPIRE and the Oregon College Savings Plan Team Up to Raise Awareness About College Funding Opportunities
ASPIRE and the Oregon College Savings Plan teamed up in December and January and took a
“College Funding” seminar on the road visiting Eugene, Bend, Corvallis, Ashland, Portland,
and Beaverton. During a two-hour seminar, community members learned about the Oregon 529
College Savings Plan, how to write a competitive OSAC Scholarship Application, and heard
about federal financial aid. Future events will be posted on OSAC’s calendar. To learn
more about the Oregon College Savings Plan, visit OregonCollegeSavings.com.
