Ford ReStart Scholarship Program
Instructions for the ReStart Reference Form
OSAC Scholarship eApp

The Ford ReStart Program is for applicants over the age of 25 who wish to begin or return to a full-time post-secondary education. To be considered for the ReStart scholarship from The Ford Family Foundation, applicants must have a complete OSAC application, demonstrate financial need, and submit one reference by the application deadline.

Paper applicants must contact The Ford Family Foundation Scholarship Office for further instructions.

Applicant's Checklist for the Online Submission of the ReStart Reference Form

• Step 1: Choose a reference.
  • Ask one person who is familiar with your plans and abilities (an employer, colleague, academic advisor, counselor, teacher, church representative, or supervisor in a community activity) if he or she will complete the online ReStart Reference Form and obtain his or her full name & e-mail address.
  • Let your reference know to expect an automated e-mail from OSAC with instructions on how to complete the form online. To prevent e-mail failures, encourage your reference to add OSAC to their "safe senders" list (view instructions).
• Step 2: Apply for the Ford ReStart Program.
  • When completing the OSAC eApp online, go to the eApp Home and click on the Scholarship List (13) button to display your list of scholarships. Add the Ford ReStart Program (scholarship code 9) as one of your scholarship selections.
• Step 3: Create a request for a ReStart Reference.
  • After adding the Ford ReStart Program, in the left-hand column next to the Ford ReStart entry, click on the Reference not complete link.
  • On the Ford ReStart Reference Request page, read the instructions carefully and make the appropriate selections.
  • If your reference has an e-mail address: Select the "My reference will complete the ReStart reference online" option. You will need to provide your reference"s full name and e-mail address. Once complete, save the reference information by clicking the Continue button. An e-mail will be sent to your reference. You should confirm that your reference has received the automated e-mail including the instructions to follow a link to complete the online ReStart Reference Form, which is submitted directly to OSAC. If your reference does not receive the e-mail, you may need to edit your Ford ReStart Reference Request. The Ford Family Foundation Scholarship Office may notify you if the e-mail returned a Delivery Failure Notification.
  • If your reference does not have an e-mail address: Select the "My reference does not have an e-mail address" option. Save the reference information by clicking the Continue button and contact The Ford Family Foundation Scholarship Office immediately. If you want to submit an e-mail address for your reference after choosing this option, you will be able to return to the Scholarship List page to revise your request.
• Step 4: Track your ReStart Reference Form status.
  • In the left-hand column, next to the Ford ReStart entry, you may:
    • see the date of your first request
    • see the status of your ReStart Reference Form
    • click on the view link if your reference has not submitted the form within a reasonable timeframe and you wish to send him or her a reminder
    • see the last date a reminder was sent
    • click on the view link to change or edit your reference information
  • Once your reference completes and submits the reference, you will receive an e-mail confirmation.
    • It is your responsibility to make sure that your reference has submitted the online reference form at least two days prior to the application deadline to ensure that your application is complete. Late references will not be included with your eApp file and therefore, your application will not be considered for the ReStart scholarship.
• Step 5: Verify that eApp is complete and submit final OSAC eApp.
  • Once you have verified that your eApp is complete and that you have fulfilled all requirements for each scholarship for which you have applied, submit your final online application no later than March 1, 2010.
