APPROVAL OF EXEMPT STATUS

FOR APPROVAL OF ONLINE-EXEMPT STATUS

If you are seeking ODA confirmation of your exempt status to offer purely online degree programs and courses for college credit, please submit:

  • An Initial Approval Request form
  • A list of the degree programs offered purely online (no practicum, clinical, internships, etc.)
  • A check for $250 made out to the Office of Degree Authorization for the exemption review.
  • The following supplementary materials:
    • Fully describe your program(s)
    • Examples of any enrollment forms or contracts required
    • Information on tuition, fees, and payment and refund policies affecting Oregon students.

Please allow one month for processing of your Exemption Approval Request. ODA staff will contact you if additional information is needed to determine your exempt status. If you have additional questions about this form or the process, please contact ODA by email. Please allow at least one week for our response.

FOR APPROVAL OF RELIGIOUS-EXEMPT STATUS

If you are seeking ODA approval to offer degree programs in theology or religious occupations for limited use in a religious community, please submit:

  • An Initial Approval Request form
  • A check for $250 made out to the Office of Degree Authorization for the program review fee.
  • The following supplementary materials:
    • A description of the program and list of all degrees offered
    • A detailed curriculum map for each degree program, including a syllabus for each course taught in each program and information about the basis for award of credit
    • Admissions policies, tuition and refund policies, and provisions for student academic support
    • Faculty compensation plan and provisions for faculty support and development
    • An Instructor Qualification Form for each individual who will teach students
    • Student records policies and examples of transcripts and diplomas

Please allow 3 months for processing of your request for approval of religious exempt status. ODA staff will contact you if further information or a site visit is required to process your application. If you have additional questions about this form or the process, please contact ODA by email.

FOR APPROVAL OF INDEPENDENT-EXEMPT COLLEGES

This exemption category is limited to schools with a campus in Oregon. Schools outside of Oregon may be granted exempt status under Online-Exempt Status.

A school that meets the criteria for exemption as an Oregon independent college will be informed of their status change after five consecutive years of successful operation under ODA authorization.
