The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program provides grants to outstanding high school graduates who show promise of continued excellence, in an effort to recognize and promote student excellence and achievement.

Who Is Eligible To Apply?

Graduating Oregon seniors who have

  • a GPA of 3.85+ OR a GED score of 3300+
  • an ACT composite of 29+ OR SAT combined math and critical reading scores of 1300+

Who Funds This Program?

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is a federally funded program subject to annual congressional appropriation.

How Many Awards Are Given Each Year?

Eighteen students are selected from each of the five U.S. Congressional Districts in Oregon.

What College Can I Attend?

Recipients may attend any U.S. 2- or 4-year institution that participates in federal Title IV student financial aid programs. (U.S. military academies are not eligible.)

When Is the Deadline?

The application and all required materials must be received by the March 2 deadline.

What is the Scholarship Award Amount?

The annual award at this time is $1,500.

Is It Renewable?

Yes. The award is renewable for four years, contingent on available federal funds.

How Do I Apply?

The Oregon Student Assistance Commission (OSAC) administers the Robert C. Byrd Scholarship Program.

Must I Have Financial Need?

No. The Robert C. Byrd Scholarship is awarded on the basis of merit, not financial need. Filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is not a requirement.
